The MMD Group welcomes MEP Daniel Attard (S&D, Malta)
20 March 2026
The MMD Group is delighted to welcome Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Daniel Attard (S&D, Malta) as a new member. MEP Attard serves as Vice-Chair of the Delegation for relations with Iran (D-IR) and is an active member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN), the Delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (DASE), and the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (DEPA). He also holds substitute positions on the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), the Committee on Regional Development (REGI), the Delegation to the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee (D-RU), the Delegation to the OACPS-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (DACP) and the Delegation to the Pacific-EU Parliamentary Assembly (DPAC).
Before his election to the European Parliament in 2024, Daniel Attard served for several years as Mayor of Mtarfa in Malta. He also worked in diplomatic and international roles, including at Malta’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva and as Deputy High Commissioner to the UK. Earlier in his career, he gained experience as a journalist and held positions supporting government ministers while completing his law studies.
One of MEP Attard’s core priorities in the European Parliament is to empower young people in decision-making processes, ensuring that their voices are heard and that policies reflect their needs. This commitment is particularly strong for young people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D), who face unique challenges in managing a complex, 24/7 condition alongside education, work and social life. Managing T1D can place a significant burden on mental health. Additionally, young people are often exposed to stigma, discrimination as well as environments that are not adapted to their needs. By advocating for their inclusion in decision-making in everything that matters to them, MEP Attard seeks to promote policies that go beyond strictly medical aspects. These include, for example, policies and other initiatives addressing barriers to effective care such as equitable access to technology and psychosocial care and promoting equal opportunities. In practice, this means that decision makers should actively engage with youth advocacy groups, listen to the lived experiences of young people with T1D and ensure that their perspectives inform legislative discussions. Through this approach, MEP Attard aims to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment across Europe, where young people living with T1D can contribute fully and benefit from equitable support.
We wish to thank MEP Attard for joining the MMD group and for his support in ensuring that the voices of people with lived experience are being heard and that policies are shaped to reflect their needs.
