The MMD Group welcomes MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchu (Renew Europe, Ireland)

8 February 2026

The MMD Group is delighted to welcome Member of the European Parliament (MEP), Cynthia Ní Mhurchu (Renew Europe, Ireland), as a new member. MEP Ní Mhurchu serves as a full Member of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) and the Delegation for relations with Canada (DCA). She is a Substitute Member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN), the Committee on Petitions (PETI), the Special Committee on the European Democracy Shield (EUDS), and the Delegations for relations with Iran (DIR), the OACPSEU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (DACP), the AfricaEU Parliamentary Assembly (DAFR) and the CaribbeanEU Parliamentary Assembly (DCAB).

Before her election to the European Parliament in 2024, MEP Ní Mhurchu had a diverse professional career. She began as a teacher in an Irish language school, then spent a decade as a journalist and presenter at RTÉ, before qualifying and practising as a barrister. Her experience spans education, media, law and advocacy, reflecting a strong commitment to public service and citizens’ rights.

One of MEP Ní Mhurchu’s core priorities is to promote integrated and person-centred healthcare systems, following the example of Ireland’s model of integrated care. Integrated care is essential to ensure that people living with chronic conditions, such as type 1 diabetes (T1D), receive coordinated, person-centred support throughout their lives. Effective diabetes management requires seamless collaboration between multidisciplinary healthcare professionals, including general practitioners, specialists, nurses, educators and other providers, working across primary, community and specialist care settings. However, achieving truly integrated care within and between these levels of the healthcare system remains an ongoing challenge and requires significantly greater effort. By promoting integrated, person-centred care models supported by multidisciplinary teams, digital health solutions and clear care pathways, EU policies can improve health outcomes, enhance quality of life and ensure that all people living with diabetes receive timely, equitable and high-quality care, regardless of where they live or their socio-economic status.

We warmly thank MEP Ní Mhurchu for joining the MMD Group and look forward to her active engagement in advancing access to care and support for people living with diabetes.
