The MMD Group welcomes MEP Paulo Do Nascimento Cabral (EPP, Portugal)

12 November 2025

The MMD Group is delighted to welcome Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Paulo Do Nascimento Cabral (EPP, Portugal) as a new member. MEP Do Nascimento Cabral serves as Vice-Chair of the Delegation for relations with South Africa (D-ZA). He is a Member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI), the Committee on Fisheries (PECH), the Delegation for relations with the United States (D-US) and the Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (DMED). He is a Substitute Member of the Committee on Regional Development (REGI), the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) and the Delegation for relations with the Mashreq countries (DMAS).

Before being elected as MEP, Paulo Do Nascimento Cabral served as chief of staff to the President of the Government of the Azores from 2020 to 2022. He was also an advisor for Azorean affairs and Energy at the Permanent Representation of Portugal to the European Union from 2022 to 2024.

One of MEP Paulo Do Nascimento Cabral’s key priorities is improving access to care. He stresses the importance of ensuring that all citizens — including people living with diabetes (PwD), regardless of their age, gender or place of residence — have access to timely diagnosis, innovative technologies, essential medicines and high-quality healthcare services.

Effective diabetes management is vital to preventing or delaying the onset of life-threatening complications, reducing hospitalisations and improving the quality of life of millions of PwD across Europe. Yet disparities in access to care persist, undermining health outcomes and placing additional pressure on healthcare systems. Strengthening policies that promote equitable access to treatment, integrated care pathways and patient-centred services will not only help prevent diabetes-related complications and reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases, but also enhance the sustainability, resilience and efficiency of healthcare systems across the EU.

We wish to thank MEP Paulo Do Nascimento Cabral for his support, and we look forward to collaborating together to improving diabetes care and advancing equitable health outcomes across Europe.
